Printing 101

A question I often receive is "Where should I print my photos?" or "I printed my photos, but they don't look like what I received. Help!" In this post, I'm going to break down where you should print, why you should print and chat about costs.

Where should I print?

First and foremost, I am always going to recommend printing through your gallery and the shop I have set up for my clients within it. I have hand picked a print lab that I work with and calibrate my editing screen to their printers. Their staff are trained to pick up on subtle color and quality differences and make sure that what is printed matches the screen. This is going to give you the best color and quality print. Not to mention, it is so easy to order right there within your gallery without worrying about file sizes, etc. like you would when uploading to an alternate site. I cannot guarantee prints from anywhere else.

Places like Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Shutterfly, etc. are low quality print labs and in my experience, the colors are often pink or green tinted and skin tones tend to not match the original photos. This often is overlooked by an untrained eye, but if you've paid to have these images done, you want them to look the way they should when printed!

If I had to recommend a lab outside of my own, I would recommend MPIX. Please remember, however, that I cannot guarantee prints from anyone outside of my print lab.

Where Do I Find the Print Store?

The print store is located within your gallery. To find, open your gallery. Scroll down to the full gallery and you will see "PRINT STORE" in the upper right hand corner. You can also find the store by hovering over an image you like and clicking on the shopping bag. Then you can follow prompts to purchase!

Why are prints so expensive?

Ugh, the price you pay for a good print lab feels crazy sometimes. But ultimately, you pay for what you get. The paper quality, the print quality, color matching, etc. is all reflected in the pricing. When I started Lynn & Layne, I knew I wanted to offer prints and art. I didn't want my clients receiving beautiful photos and then having them sit in a folder on their computer forever. I want to help my clients create reminders of why life is worth living. I want them to print and display the art that they paid for and have it match what they were delivered.

What is a print credit? Can I have a discount on my session if I don't use it?

A print credit is simply a credit you can use towards printing through your gallery! Your gallery remains active for 60 days, but if you forget to use your credits, you can always pay the archival fee to have your gallery uploaded again.

If you choose not to use your print credits, that is fine too! Because I feel strongly that people should print their images and display them in their homes, I offer these print credits complementary with their session and as such, do not give a discount if they go unused!

I hope this post helps to answer all the questions you have regarding printing, but as always, if you have further questions, please reach out at samantha@lynnandlayne.com.
